
Those games have RPG roots which isn’t really where Red Dead is based (there’s not so much as a skill tree in the entire game), and yet this “party system” feels very similar, and like those games, your crew here starts to feel like family because you’re spending so much time with them, either in camp or when you take them out on missions.īut Red Dead does this in a much less “video gamey” way than Mass Effect or Dragon Age. What this reminds me of the most is Mass Effect, and I guess by proxy, Dragon Age. I did not expect to have so much of the storytelling be these gang members riding out with you and actively participating in nearly every main and side mission. I figured you’d have a base camp and little icons would appear and you’d be send out to retrieve X or Y and report back to that gang member for a cash reward. While I knew that you were in a gang in Red Dead 2, I did not expect things to play out this way.
